More Than $6.8 Million in Help Approved for West Virginians
CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- More than $6.8 million in federal funds have been approved for residents and businesses in West Virginia recovering from the recent storms and flooding.
May 6-12 is Arson Awareness Week
SEATTLE, Wash. -- National Arson Awareness Week is being observed May 6-12. This year’s theme is Prevent Youth Firesetting. According to FEMA Regional Administrator Ken Murphy, we all need to join in a collaborative effort with fire and emergency service departments to zero in on the importance of helping reduce the occurrence of fires caused by children playing with fire.

LACEY WA (May 1, 2012) - When the severe winter storms dubbed 'Snowmageddon' hit Washington State in January of this year, airports, roads and schools closed, cars crashed, and trees and tons of debris blocked roads and knocked out power to more than 275,000 customers across the state.
Pay it Forward: Volunteers Make the Difference
LACEY, Wa -- In the January 2009 flood, the small town of South Prairie in east Pierce County was inundated by mud. A local high school initiated an MLK Day service project for its students. Coordinating efforts with the mayor, nearly 75 kids showed up to be a 'mud brigade,' shoveling mud out of critically needed roadways, buildings, and the town's only Fire Station driveway.

National Severe Weather Preparedness Week Begins April 22
SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announce that they are partnering to increase awareness of the severe weather that affects everyone as well as encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to know their risk, take action, and be an example through NOAA’s Be a Force of Nature pledge campaign (www.noaa.gov/wrn).
