I am currently working on a multi-hazard risk assessment for the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition (TCRFC). The TCRFC consists of 17 counties that intersect the Colorado River basin in SE Texas. This risk assessment is part of the TCRFC hazard mitigation plan update and is intended to support their long-term hazard mitigation planning efforts. The risk assessment results will be used to identify and prioritize appropriate mitigation actions in order to minimize potential losses from riverine and coastal flooding and hurricane wind events.

This is mainly a regional Level 1 HAZUS Analysis focused on Essential Facilities. However, we noticed that many of the EF point locations were spatially off. This caused some problems when performing GIS analysis related to floodplain intersections. Our client gave us the go-ahead to adjust the Essential Facilities point locations. After determining the correct LAT/LONG for each facility I used CDMS for data integration. Other than in the classroom, this was my first time using CDMS live. There were a couple of kinks in the process but that was mostly operator error. Once I figured out what I was doing wrong everything went smoothly. If you haven’t used CDMS yet I can tell you that it makes updating inventory data a breeze.

Hi everyone,

The North Carolina HAZUS User Group is forming now.

We’re looking for a quality mix of state and local government, university, utility, private sector and non-profit HAZUS users. From that it would be great to have users from all HAZUS levels; users, developers and decision makers. I know there are solid individuals in all of those fields who would have a lot to add to a diverse and dedicated North Carolina user community.

Please respond here or directly if you’d be interested in joining and helping me form this group. I’d also be interested in words of wisdom or lessons learned from others who have background in forming a UG.

Thanks!!
Eric
