You are invited to East Carolina University’s upcoming HURRICANE FLOYD SYMPOSIUM.

The symposium marks the 10th anniversary of North Carolina’s worst natural disaster.  The event will provide a 2 day program:  Day 1 to remember and remark upon lessons learned, with noted dignitaries Gov. Jim Hunt and Hon. Richard Moore.;  Day 2 will provide a scientific program showcasing developments and research across several natural hazards disciplines.

Details on the event and venue (and very modest registration) are available at

Tom,
Thanks for posting.
Will there be a HAZUS session at this conference?

We do not have a dedicated HAZUS session, nor a presentation that I have seen to demonstrate it. There may be room on the first day.  For example, it could be very compelling for us or someone to do a HAZUS demonstration of what a Floyd (500yr) flood loss would look like THEN vs. NOW.  I intend to invite FEMA region IV and perhaps setup a booth.

I am organizing a PANEL DISCUSSION on the public forum day about Emerging Technologies in Disaster Loss Reduction.  Any HAZUS practitioner or agency representative who would like to contribute, please contact me ASAP.
