Tips & Bug Fixes

HAZUS is a challenging program that produces fabulous results. This area of USEHAZUS is dedicated to the "techies" and lists the most recent patches and tools available as well as information about future HAZUS releases.

CDMS

FEMA released the CDMS Version 2.0, a complimentary tool to HAZUS-MH MR3 that provides users with the capability to update and manage statewide datasets, which are currently used to support analysis in HAZUS-MH. CDMS greatly simplifies and streamlines the process for updating statewide datasets, and represents an important milestone in the ongoing development of the HAZUS-MH technology. CDMS replaces two HAZUS-MH tools - InCAST and the Building Inventory Tool (BIT). For more information and to download CDMS visit FEMA's CDMS page.

HAZUS MR3 Patch 2

Accompanying the release of CDMS is the HAZUS-MH MR3 Patch 2, which provides a range of technical fixes that are the product of extensive testing of MR3. For more information and download Patch 2 visit FEMA's HAZUS-MH Software Patches page.

HAZUS-MH MR3 Patch 1

The HAZUS-MH MR3 Patch 1 makes adjustments and incorporates improvements in the flood and earthquake models. For the flood model: Alert message to the user when memory becomes too low during hydraulic analysis. For a riverine/coastal flood hazard type, riverine and coastal hydraulic analyses can be run with non-matching return period. Coastal analysis results are available for building economic loss in terms of both full replacement values and depreciated values. For the earthquake model: Landslide probabilities and peak ground deformations are now generated for site-specific facilities. The method used to calculate the number of displaced persons in the HAZUS Shelter Module and information in the Technical Manual are now coordinated. Also, HAZUS can now be installed on ArcEditor.

HAZUS-MH MR4

Starting in Winter 2008, NIBS anticipates beginning tests of HAZUS-MH MR3 with ArcGIS 9.3 as the platform for the next version of HAZUS (HAZUS-MH MR4). NIBS anticipates delivering MR4 to FEMA in Summer 2008 with the following improvements:

  • Dam/levee analysis capability
  • Updated fire-following module in the Earthquake Model
  • New damage functions in the Earthquake Model
  • Updated schools, transportation, agriculture, and vehicle valuations databases

HAZUS-MH MR3 Technical Manuals Now Available

The Technical Manuals for HAZUS-MH MR3 for Flood, Hurricane and Earthquake are available for download. The Technical Manuals for HAZUS-MH MR3 build on the content of previous manuals and provide detailed documentation of all methods and data that are used in the loss estimation methodologies. The Technical Manuals are very comprehensive and written for readers who have a technical background in one or more of the models.
