Book Chapter Published
Emergency Management in Higher Education: Current Practices and Conversations includes a chapter by the 3RiversHUG and CHUG leaders. Chapter 19: The Use of HAZUS-MH and GIS for Emergency Management - by Jamie D. Mitchem, Thomas R. Mueller, Kevin J. Mickey. Available by the Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI).
Dr. Jamie Mitchem Honored
Dr. Jamie Mitchem the creator and co-coordinator of the 3 Rivers HAZUS group will be leaving for a new job in Georgia. To honor the work of Dr. Mitchem the Three Rivers HAZUS group will rename its outstanding service award to the Jamie Mitchem Award. This year’s winner is David “DJ” Johnson, Planner, Emergency Management Division Allegheny County Dept. of Emergency Services.
Also starting this Fall 2008, the 3 Rivers HAZUS student group will be assisting the counties in the region on updating the data in HAZUS. This will include the schools database, etc. More information soon.
3RiversHUG Biennial Meeting
We hope to have our second annual 3RiversHUG conference in August 2009. The group holds biennial meetings.
Jamie Mitchem
Congratulations to Jamie D. Mitchem, the first recipient of the National HAZUS User of the Month award. Dr. Mitchem is an Assistant Professor, Department of Earth Sciences, California University of Pennsylvania where he successfully created a new concentration in Geographic Information Sciences (GIS) and Emergency Management under the existing Bachelor of Arts major in Geography.
